Bob and I spent Martin Luther King weekend in Izmir, Turkey. We spent one day at Pergamon, another at Mary's House and Ephesus, and our final day just wandering the streets of Izmir looking for a juice press. Flights to Izmir from Adana are fairly reasonable and we got a good package deal for flight, hotel, and a semi-private guide with a driver too. Izmir is an amazing mix of old and new with modern shopping nearby the covered bazaar area. The waterfront has a modern promenade that goes for miles and we even found a mall built on a ferry pier. We also climbed one of the hills above Izmir where the houses and people were similar to what we have seen out in the villages.
