I bought this lens in August, 2005, and I agree that it's not a lens of the highest quality, but having said that, it is one that I use regularly because of its 18-200mm zoom capability. I recently took it with me on a cruise of the western Mediterranean and on the second day, it started regularly producing the dreaded "Err 99" message on my Canon 30D after making a noise that sounded like the gears were stripped on the autofocus motor. The lens has a 6 year warranty so when I got home, I shipped it off to Tamron for repair. I got it back today and it works like new. All it cost me was the fee to ship it to them. I'm very impressed with the way Tamron handled the warranty. I was without the lens for about 3 weeks.

I intend to buy a Pentax camera K100D and Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Xr Di-II LD IF or Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC. Does anyone know which one is better in terms of optical quality and build quality? I have heard that the mount of Tamron is made by plastic so can it be damaged easily? About Sigma, the build quality is not really good, is it? The cover might be damaged after long time use and then it looks ugly. Thank you

Great lens for outdoors! A little slow for indoors but even when blurry, it still has a warm soft quality to it. Comparing it to the Tamron 17-35 f2.8-4 lens in daylight and you can't tell the difference except that the colors are warmer.

After seeing a number of images from this lens that appeared soft, I took a gamble and bought one anyway. I'm glad I did. It's not "L" glass, and I probably wouldn't recommend it for special photos like weddings, but for an everyday lens to leave on the camera it suits my needs ver well. I really, really enjoy being able to go all the way from 18mm to 200mm without changing lenses, and the lens is not too large or too heavy. Had this lens in test for the Nikon mount. All around not a bad lens when it concerns picture quality, but, the mechanical construction fits like a fist to the eye with Canons 300 and 350 cameras or better said ... plastic, plastic, plastic ..... At least they could fit there recent DI lenses with aluminium mount sockets. These lenses are real Dinky Toys !!!!
