the circle will be present on a full frame camera. On a crop camera, you will see less depending on the amount of crop. A 1.6x crop will show dark corners. The shots without any dark areas at all have been either cropped, or 'de-fished' & cropped.

question to anyone who has this lens; thinking of getting this.

will it work for cropped dslr's like the 30d and the 400d?

also, why do some photos have the circle effect while others do not?
