Wonderfully sharp when stopped down f4 and beyond. Love the close focus ability, not true macro but handy anyway. Only complaint is that this lens can struggle to focus in low light.

I got this lens last week. I'm very happy with the results. Some slight vignetting at 18mm/f2.8 , but not enough to be concerned with. Sharpness good at all apertures. Here is some test shots at full resolution 100% crop , taken at 18 and 50 mm at various apertures.

Got this lens last week and so far I'm impressed. Nice built quality and smooth operation. IQ seems to be on par with the tamron 17-50 2.8 and the sigma adds a nice macro capability. On my gallery i provide some full sized testshots.

Hi, I just uploaded some samples of this lens. The URL is following:

I had a 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC as a walk around lens, but I dropped it on the floor . It got a lot of cracks in a front glass and became unusable. So I bought this one as a replacement yesterday.
In my first impression, this lens is very sharp and bokeh is really beautiful. Macro feature is great! I love this newly improved lens.

Nick _ your lens is the older version of this lens so its not a true representation of the lens here.

A good lens for cropped sensor. I bought it to replace the Canon 17-85mm which I had in turn bought to replace the 350D kit lens. Its half the price of the 17-85, and although it obviously hs a smaller range it is more than twice as fats at f2.8. In my opinion it is also a better, sharper lens.

Having just bought the 5D I cannot use it anymore, but then the same is true of my 17-85.

Here is a gallery of pics taken with this lens:
