I only spent a week playing around with my buddy's Nikon D60 plus 55-200mm VR, but the pics I got out of the combo were very impressive. Some of my full-sized samples are at :> http://www.dpnotes.com/nikon/nikon55200vr/ ... the bokeh on images from this lens is especially pleasing. Sharpness is also excellent.

Having seen more samples, I withdraw my comment of 3-Jan-08. This lens and the D40/D40x + 18-55mm in any version are freakishly good and affordable.

Yes, pretty good, but not nearly as good as the af180mm f/2.8, which the D40 is incapable of autofocusing.

Pretty sharp for a cheap telephoto lens. It is also very compact!
