I've just purchased this lens over other Canon long zooms, and am very pleased. It's build is similar to the standard EF 100-300mm zoom, but includes weather seals. Therefore, it's lighter, & smaller than other L series zooms in this range, and uses standard 58mm filters. It doesn't offer USM, and the front lens does turn during focus, but it's f/5.6 seems much brighter in comparison to non L series. My copy is tack sharp at 300mm f/9 which is a complaint about non L series. These lenses can be found in excellent condition for around $400.00 US at current time. If you shoot digital, & are looking for a reasonable price zoom with high quality glass, it might be the lens for you.

this lens delivers superbly, only problem is that most of the time you won´t be able to use slow film with it.

the fd version is better built, this one feels linke a chunk of plastic and does not deliver better results but eos ef is the way to go now.
