Stunning photos, make me want to pack my bags and go there. The title of the gallery is so open to interpretation as to be problematic. Photos this good don't need a snip of poetry to introduce them.

great shots, bruce... i am in mumbai at the moment and taking some shots of this captivating city myself. i had a couple of shots taken of the street people of mumbai... the smiles they give are one of the most genuine ones i have ever seen. i cant quite describe it. if u have time, do visit the gallery. its no where close to yours of course. thanks for these. lovely indeed...

btw. Andrew My wife is east Indian (brown skin) and my daughter gets great "colour" from her too. Frankly speaking...I prefer it over "white". Most people like the people who make immediate reactionary judgments about something tend to not think about what they are seeing or hearing, but are merely running out a learned response much like a computer. Critical and Abstract thought are coming to an end, at least in most civilized (uncivilized IMHO) parts of the world. I long to travel and see other places, but I fear I will never do so, and pictures like this gives me a chance to see what I will be missing. Thank you and do not let them give you too much grief, they know not what they do, fore they are only reacting the way they have been thought to react.

I was taught a long time ago that you can't get the most out of an instrument (at the time, it was crayons) without breaking it. Only when something is broken can its essence spill; think of a cup of paint in Michaelangelo's hand. Think of the imperfect beings he painted—their imperfection before their creator. The body is our vessel; it breaks on the shoals of experience. Then we can use it fully. Then we can see its beauty—beauty in compromise, beauty in a five hundredth of a second. You can dip your lens into the essence that spills from people and paint their image, but the image can never be more, for some critics, than a reflection of their own brokenness. That's why it hurts them to see this. Some will learn to be brave, to touch the imperfection you've put on display. Their anger is proof that you moved them, as you do all of us. The truth in your photos endures the public process, so you've succeeded.

Bruce, don't let people get you down with their comments, but don't be surprised if they don't understand it either. The title of this gallery is so appropriate on a multitude of levels. However, I can very easily see how someone who has never been exposed to, or experienced first hand, places just like this, could feel distraught about the title. You said it yourself, the title leaves interpretation up to the viewer. Real poverty has a tendency to create different reactions within people. Particularly those that have never experienced it. Fantastic work. Perfecet title. My interpretation? Do you see the beauty and the love in the people? Or the misery surrounding them?

My interpretation of the word: Imperfection. It is not the subjects of thse photos that exude imperfection. It is the viewer, who by introspective means sees the inherent purity and beauty of the subjects and sees in himself the imperfection. I stared at these photos for hours before posting. I saw beauty and purity in the faces of these children and then I looked into myself and realized that I had a lot more materially, but was less happy spiritually than any one image depicted in this collection. These photos are supposed to invoke a reaction and a unique interpretation. The title resonated very well for me. Thanks, I enjoyed your work.

Wow....quite the philosophical dialogue we have running here. I can't get over the snap judgements of some of these commentators...splitting hairs over the verbage. You are an artist in word and visuals, and they have no right to criticize the minutae of your reasoning. You are doing more to bring the beauty of these people (and the world at large) to the rest of us than most people, and those who would stand to accuse otherwise should look at themselves before they cast accusations outwardly. It reminds me of one of my favorite biblical scriptures concerning just this situation: "...brother, why are you pointing out the splinter in your brother's eye when you've got a plank in your own?" (loosely paraphrased..I'm not a Christian, I just appreciate solid wisdom when I hear it). Lastly, I'll sum up with this quotation: "We cannot despair of humanity, since we ourselves are human beings" Albert Einstein. Great work, great title and tremendous inspiration to anyone sensitive and broadminded enough to interpret the empathy in this presentation. Visually stunning, poignantly emotional...your work is perfect. KHT

Thanks Lisa.. Thats the first message I felt the desire to delete.... Keep the foul langauge to yourself. Nobody is perfect... is that so hard to grasp? The ugliness is in those that think they are...PERFECT Nothing to do with material wealth. How is it... that this concept is so damn hard to grasp? These people are beautiful...obviously. The title was not.."the beauty of poverty" that would be difficult to comprehend. When I sat and ate this christmas meal I could not help thinking... why is it some have so much...too much in fact and others not nearly enough. Not fair : /

Guys you don't understand . the imperfection is being dirty and not full of makeup not the poverty. When they shoot Models they make them look perfect with lighting and makup in here in these pictures the imperfection is the lack of those.

a critical mind, instructed to alter (add, subtract, re-arrange) these photos could change some detail in each and every one of them. their perfection lies in your choice of subject and realization of capturing what you saw in front of you. thank you for sharing them. Hello Guest... If one wishes to engage into the technicalities of semantics then there is not much room for the poetry and enigmatic nature of life. Either/or descriptions fail to convey any depth at all. That is why I like the title..it leaves room for an interpretation. And a chance to examine our concepts of humanity Bottom line.... the images convey an authentic response which must project in both directions to work as they do. It is a reflection....not a conclusion. I am happy you enjoyed the pictures.

Brown skin?..hardly, both my wife and daughter have it : P Poverty?... we do live in a world full of problems...but thats not the point. Have a closer look at the images... reconsider your notions of beauty and imperfection. As often...they are one and the same. I can understand your conclusion though... I think it just requires a change of perception...a gestalt in concept,, then the idea "beauty of imperfection" is quite liberating in fact. Anyway....thats how I see it. Thanks for commenting.

Imperfection is the right word here....because it make us reflect, think, meditate... What is perfection anyway? Where is it? Everywhere? Anywhere? In the way we look to things and to people? Is it in dirty streets of miserable people here in Brasil? Is it in rich, very clean and healthy places? What is imperfection or perfection for YOU? And for me? Your pictures always make me think. Well I don't really think so.. nothing...nobody is perfect! I prefer the beauty of say for example...hand crafted mugs myself, over the machined precision of factoryware. same goes for the "refinement" of the upper classes I catch your sentiment though.... certainly no degradation intended, sorry if you felt that was implyied. Certainly wasn't.
