I don't pity the child. I pity the heartless, lonely, dispirited people whose unimaginably course and inhuman comments are now associated with these images. The five images in the "sick child" folder, combined with the inhuman comments attached to them, comprise one of the most powerful works of art I have ever witnessed. Everything that is wrong with this world is plainly on display here.

True and good words - but it makes to think about the life himself : if we can ask the baby, before it is born : "wanna come into life for few days, or wanna : never exist ?" - what would the baby says, if he can ? Thats a question, that goes since many months in my mind. After which "status" of parents have a baby the right for live - even when its for few painful days ? And are an other person (for example ,parents, or other people) have the right to have a greater importance of own will, as the will of the baby ? For me, i can say : i exist - and if someone say to me: "you will life only 3 painful days and then you die, or you can make it easy and die now", for me: i'm sure i would take the 3 days. Some people dont make my decission, but some do. But the difference is: i can express my will - a baby can't. But which higher institution (for example: truth) gives us the right to say : "no, that baby doesnt want the 3 painful days, and wish that he would never born". If i would the baby, surely: theres a imagine of "no pain" - so i could imagine a painless live. But, it is, like it is. I would be thankful for this "3 days" of exist. Theres a lot of reasons, why its not good to make babies. Every child get pains in his life. No child is safe from deadly sicknesses (cancer, etc.). And in the last: every child (man) die's some day, and from this day, every time in the remember is like a second. The baby on the picture is not thankful for the pain, thats sure. But maybe thankful to can see, hear, and touch her mother. Thankful for dreams, when it sleeps, thankful for the things, he get from the "existing". Maybe, thats not so, and you andrea are right, and he wish to never borned. But who says you, that you're right at every baby, that dies at young age ? Do you know every "soul", that wants to be born ?
(post scriptum: the "3 days" in this posting is just for example, because i dont know the age of the baby)
Greetings,
Pygmalion

i dont care how "artsy" you are, you have to be one sick son of a bitch to look at this photo and say "i love it", or its "excellent", nothing about this is excellent. i mean ya if you can look at it and just see the quality of the picture thats your problem, but i could never look at this and take my attention away from that poor child. its lovely to see people can actually look at this and say the words "i love it" at the same time. makes you think about what this world is coming to. and to the people in the photo itself...if you cant feed your children, stop making babies!!! damn, i HATE all these commercials about "feeding the children in Africa or India or where ever" it makes me sick, if you know you cant afford to feed your kids then stop having sex and making babies to suffer, and then turning around and expecting the u.s to fix it,we have our own problems and our own people to take care of right here, maybe there wouldnt be so much trouble in this damn country if we for once tried fixing our own problems instead of everyone elses. and for Gods sake, stop getting off on pictures of a baby thats dying for your art!!!

Amazing shot Bruce.

striking! this is just excellent.

i like this one much better than the cropped version with only the child's face, because of the dramatic contrasting between the father and child. this father looks straight into our eyes, with anger, bitterness. what an expression.

This is fake photo.... the original child doesn't look like this. Shame for playing with small baby..

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

We are all very impressed with your diagnosis Dr Mer and your approach to spirituality is straight from the files of Beverly Hills 90210 but know this Mr Scientist. God IS in control. I did not say that He's to blame! But He is now and has always been and always will be in control. We've all got to serve somebody! Who are you serving? Not sure? Well you'd better make a commitment because the day is coming when all will have to make an account for how we chose to live our lives. What are you going to say?

Amazing photo. This looks like Hutchison-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (progeria). As I understand, it is a genetic disease of very fast ageing during the first year of life. The life expectancy is around 12 years. You have captured something most people rarely have an opportunity to see and that is why it is so shocking to us. Everyone wants to blame it on God somehow.

Me: I don't quite understand your question but I am a little concerned about you calling on the name of a false prophet. Feeling that I should probably steer completely clear of you. Nevertheless I will try and answer the best I can decipher your question. I don't really think that God will ask me the reason for my words, as it is quite obvious but I will indulge you "Me". I will tell God that my heart was convicted when I saw this picture and it made me stop and consider the plight of these unfortunate people. It reminded me that the children of God are supposed to be "others centered" and I have often become self centered. I believe that God would be pleased with the effect that it had on me. I was merely trying to convict a few of the other "VERY LOST" souls.

Peace... so sad to see how some people react to images such this one..
a question for the "guest #2"...what will you say the day you will be asked the reason for your words...when God will be asking you.?..For Galves...maybe because He want to see how much compassion we have.....evidently judging by the comments about this pictures.... not much...Andrew....indeed is a sad picture......but nothinc compared to how pityful and sad you and the other mention above are...dont forget to say thank you to God for someone else been the father, and not you.....Jekill & Hyde..and Guest#1may Allah God of the worlds bless your for your compassion....indeed on the day of judgment you surely will be rewarded....May Allah grant this lil soul all the eternal joys of jannah.....AAmen...AAmen..

I have a job interview today, that I've been stressing over.
And I've been quite worried about the state of my credit cards.
And when I look at this it makes all of that seem very stupid and self centered.
So preoccupied with our ridiculous worldly stuff.
I'm so sorry for this little guy.
I'm sure that my comments will evoke sharp criticism from the likes of Andrew and Mr Galves and the other guest but I believe that God has a perfect will and that even terrible suffering like this is part of it.
I don't understand how God works but I believe that God is in control.
This image has been permenantly engraved into my conscience and these people are in my prayers, instead of just prayers for MY silly needs.
Maybe the next time I see needy people living on the streets, I won't be in such a hurry to get away from them. Maybe I'll have a little more compassion on them. I don't know what they did or why they're in the situation that they're in.
But I know this. That little fella never even got a chance to be a child. And my heart aches for him. I believe that children are definitely the closest thing to God that we're ever going to see on this earth. Look at him!!!

Guest 30-Jan-2005 21:46
Someone said god inspired this image! Why didn' god prevent what caused these pictures to be taken?????
Andrew 02-Dec-2004 08:15
Oh yea, whatever...God inspired everything! Whatever...
But really a very sad piece of work like this...??

This image could not be more moving if God Himself inspired it.
Oh, wait. He did.
