This dry creek/river bed is typical of tens of thousands that criss cross the Australian Outback.
Most of the year or even for several years they remain without flowing water with only the odd billabong holding any water.
But every once in awhile heavy rains cause huge amounts of water to flood these creeks causing destruction along the way.
Even is desert country these creeks/rivers exist, lined along the edges and even in the bed itself by massive River Gums
whose roots search deep through the rocks and sand to suck up any moisture that may be there!
