An Offenplatte (Oven Plate) as displayed in the museum.
This is an example of the wonderful iron work from hundreds of years ago in Eisenschmitt.
The Offenplatte was used to cover the old wood burning ovens.
The Takenplatte were about the same but used in the wall between the kitchen (where the fire was) and the living area.
The Takenplatte transferred the heat through the wall and provided decoration at the same time.
These original iron plates are real collector items today.
