Diversity in Death Valley NP

three films: fuji acros 100, fuji provia 100f, digital


one goal
visit death valley and bring back a DIVERSE *view* of the park by using only the available light, a little creativity, no tricks,
no photoshop gimmicks all while attempting to avoid the postcards fotos of the valley ---- most are not masterpieces ~ just diverse

Hi Bryan. Just stopped by to have a look, and WOW was I impressed. I have always wanted to visit Death Valley, but have not made it there so far. Thanks for sharing and taking me along with you on this journey of images. Stunning scenery and details captured in their simplicity, very well done. Something to look forward to should I ever reach The Valley.

I have been going to DV the last 4 years and will be going again this Mar-Apr. These fotos keep me anxious to get back out there and discover more of it's natural beauty. Great gallery to stroll thru. HD.

Nice gallery, I see that you have been working. But as the budists say, deth is just a cicle that leads too more life. I am sure that there is life beneeth the surface ;)

thank you Arthur! yes I also enjoy the F100 fotos because of the very wide perspective. most of the F100 photos were photographed at roughly 20-24mm which turned out to be an important lens for DV. I brought all three cameras for separate reasons -- the rollei for everything from normal wide 60mm (35mm in 135 format) to 250mm. I do not own a true wide angle for the rollei yet. If I had the 40mm lens, I would have left the F100 at home :) --- the detail and tones in the MF negatives are sooooo much better!! So for any fotograph that required a true wide angle, I used the F100. For the fotos that I had no intention of printing or I was just taking them as snapshots, I used the D100. yes Acros 100 is a brilliant landscape film. FANTASTIC tones and very sharp! I did not develop the negatives this time. I have never worked with Acros before so I was not willing to experiment on these rolls -- I understand it is a very tempermental film!! Fortunately, the lab down the street has been working with Acros for a while and did a very good job with these. very good separation of tones and no grain to speak of. All the fotos posted here are scanned from the negative. the scanner I own does a TERRIBLE job of scanning 120 film. it always creates a curve in the film so the sides never appear sharp in the final scan. I will be changing scanners very soon and will then rescan all the 120 film. thank you again Arthur Bryan

Very nice, Brian! This sure looks like a fascinating and very beautiful place. So far, I especially like the F100+Acros pics - looks like Fuji Acros is a really good film for landscapes, excellent quality! Did you develop it yourself? Are the pictures here negative scans or print scans?
It looks like you actually used all the cameras you brought along. Myself, I'm always tempted to take more than one camera when I go out shooting and then I can't decide which one to use... ;-)
