The weekend was to start with watching and recording a long period meteor shower called the Aurigids.
Peter Jenniskens, of SETI, had predicted that the peak of this meteor shower was to occur at the 04:33, Sep 1.

Peter had arranged for two GulfStream business jets for airborne observations.
He also arranged for ground observations at Lick Observatories on Mount Hamilton and at Fremont Peak above Monterey Bay.
Astronomer Tolis Christou, from Britain, and I were to be the ground observers at Lick Observatories.
Many thanks to Bryant Grigsby, Elinor Gates and staff of the University of California Observatories / Lick Observatory for
the use and support of the grounds and power.
