Waste Pile

From the Permanente Quarry.

This quarry was founded in 1939 to provide much of the cement for Shasta Dam in northern California.

Today, it still provides the cement material for the Santa Clara Valley.

A controversial scar to our local hillside.

A valuable source of material, but certainly at a trade-off with environment.

a visual blight yes, well illustrated here, but if we want concrete then the cement must come from somewhere..
