Orange Arms

While watching the 49ers game live, I noticed that there were often pauses in play where the players were just standing around.

It then dawned on me that this was during the TV commercial break.

The person with the prominent orange sleeves would receive word from the booth that a commercial was starting and would walk onto the field and signal the referee that it was time to pause the game.

Then with a windmill motion of his orange arms, the referee would do the same to start the clock again at the end of the commercial.

I bet the players dont like this kind of interruption though! Great capture and info, Bryan.BV

I wonder if it's frustrating for the players?

That's very interesting, Bryan.

And that's the reason they started the 2 minute warning: to get in another commercial break.

Fine shot, too.

Interesting, I always thought the commercials worked around the game time outs, not the other way around, but then I'm not a real football fan.

Interesting photo and commentary. It's been so long since I went to a game live that I forgot about this. Another reason to like real Football (Soccer). :)

remarkable...it seems a pity to fracture the game for commercials...
