The Window Seat

Early in 1996 I was aboard a flight that departed from Miami heading east, and the plane did a wide turn just off Miami Beach. The water, beach, and buildings were simply an awesome sight when viewed from 5,000 feet. I did not have a camera with me then, but from then on I vowed to carry on a camera whenever I fly. Looking out the plane window during a flight is my favorite form of inflight entertainment. From takeoff to landing, I have always been amazed at the sights. Cities, rivers, airports, even clouds take on a whole new perspective when seen from "up there". It is not easy to shoot many of these shots; after all, you are moving at almost 500mph and shooting something that may be 10 miles away not to mention shooting through haze, jet exhaust, and scratched windows. Most of these photos also required extensive alteration of the color levels to bring out the detail. A lot of effort went into these shots and what you see here is a collection of some of my personal favorites. Enjoy!
