The End

Finally I have finished Shelby Foote's three volume history of the civil war--all 2700 pages. I finished it on the same day that Lee surrendered his army to Grant and it happens also to be the "same" Sunday--Palm Sunday. So I chose this photo of a Union cavalry officer at the Civil War Memorial in front of the Capitol reflecting pool. Now I can read some shorter books that have been piling up.

Excellent lighting and bokeh.
BTW, the History Channel had a long program about April '65 yesterday too. I was reminded about Grant asking Joshua Chamberlain to take the surrender and how he (Chamberlain) had the Union troops present arms. That brought tears to my eyes!

I thought the Foote volumes were the best I've read about the Civil War. If I ever get out there to visit you we'll have to visit one of the battlefields.
