9th March

I decided to look for photo opportunities in my hometown. I wanted to visit the main church so cycled there (trying to get fit). St. Peter's church was built in 1450 and it has a Somerset Tower which measures 99 feet (30 metres) high. I walked through the graveyard which was very quiet even though it is situated near a busy road - I've noticed this at other graveyards too. I always find graveyards very peaceful, tranquil and not at all creepy.

I found a patch of the graveyard which didn't have the usual gravestones but small square stones laid flat in a neatly kept lawned area. Presumably those whose these graves marked were cremations. I was touched by the sight of this little angel placed on one of the graves.

I'm a frequent cemetary visitor as well. I love the little angel and the way the engraving is barely visible. Neat find and capture.

Nice composition with the writing in the background.

Lots of people find cemeteries peaceful, so you aren't alone.
You may want to try using a fill flash for shots like this.

I also agree cemeteries are very soothing. Aren't they? When I looked at the thumbnail, I thought it was a figurine. That is so beautiful. What a great idea to have it on a toombstone. It's like he's watching over...

I find myself in the middle of a story everytime I look through the camera (that's not mine I heard it somewhere). Most of my friends think I'm a weirdo for finding cemetaries peaceful, nice to see someone agrees with me.

Yet another good capture! The shallow dof used very well.

I agree cemetaries do offer tranquility and time for reflection.

I am apt to wonder what the story is behind this one...
