"King Bear"

Katmai

When in Katmai, I was told that this wild Grizzly was a dominant male named "Tuyuq".
Last Sunday, on National Geographic's "Planet Carnivore", there was a program about him. The story was very sad and dealt with the inevitable result of aging and the fall of a king.
When I return to the Falls this July, there will now be a new "King Bear" in Tuyuq's place.
This photo of the old king was taken on a grey, rather dismal day. Neverthless, you can still see that there was something special about Tuyuq in his prime fishing spot. The King won't be forgotten.
