In memory of a dear friend
Thursday, I noticed something strange about the one crab apple tree in our backyard. While the other trees here in the Midwest are near glorious, peak, fall color, only a few clumps of somewhat green leaves remained on this one tree. Most of the other leaves have already fallen off. However in the midst of the few remaining leaves, there was the beauty of white flowers clustered around them. I thought how strange for October, and went on with my life for the rest of that afternoon.
However, Thursday was the day that my dear friend of 18 years Norma Jean - also known as "ga peach" - quietly passed away. When I heard the news, I knew that our tree was flowering especially for her. Now at peace, Norma Jean has been reunited with her dear, sweet, Chihuahua Sassy. They are together where beautiful flowers bloom all year round.
How I wish I could have taken a photo of a peach blossom.
But this photo of an October crab apple flower is for you, Norma Jean. I'm going to miss you so much.
