Because I'll be traveling after Thanksgiving, I decided to get an early start on our Christmas decorating this year. I usually don't start until after Thanksgiving. By Black Friday, most of the "nice" Christmas decorations (including replacement lights) are usually already sold out. So every year, I always say that I'm going to look for lights the week before Thanksgiving; while there is still a good selection. I never do.
However this year, I went Christmas décor shopping before Halloween. Truthfully, it was a weird feeling to go into a store in mid October and find all things Christmas; including Christmas music playing. The stores had very little Fall; beyond Halloween costumes.
This made me wonder. Whatever happened to Thanksgiving in America? It seems to have become the forgotten holiday. All things Christmas has instead totally taken over.
Nevertheless, here I still am, testing our new Christmas lights in mid November. So I guess I'm guilty, too. This year, I didn't even put out our Thanksgiving decorations. Instead, I hope to have all my Christmas decorating done by Turkey Day. The table will be set for Thanksgiving, but the house will be ready for Santa Claus.
