I bought this Long Coat Chihuahua statue off Ebay about 15 years ago and paid $150. The seller had a 100% approval rating. So I doubt I got ripped off.
It is an original plaster statue that is close to 200 years old.
However, the value comes only with the age and collectability - not in the materials.
So I couldn't tell you if - in 2015 - it's the worth $150 that I paid or $1,500 or just $15. It really doesn't matter to me because I bought this statue to enjoy and not as an investment piece. Obviously, it's not in mint condition. Nor the prettiest of statues. However, I've never seen another one like it any place : on the Web or elsewhere.
Guess if the Antique Road Show comes to town, I can take this in; just for fun.
One antique dealer, who I talked to (several years ago), said that he was willing to "take it off my hands" for $50 more than what I paid. Guess he had a collector in mind to resell it to. Even if this statue were really worth "something", I would think the chip over the eye would chip away (very punny) some of the value. But who am I to say? I don't normally collect antiques.
And yes, the colors are this garish in real life.
