Historic Little Town

Parkville

From the gallery http://www.pbase.com/britestar/2011_flood_of_the_century

During the great flood of '93 (a flood of proportions that everyone said could NEVER happen), all this was under water. The flood waters went up to the tops of buildings. That Flood also covered an equal distance MORE beyond what-you-see-here into the town. That was the largest flood in the 300 years of town history. It was a Flood of pure Raw Nature.

If you look at the horizon, you can see the Missouri River which is swollen but NOT currently close to flood stage. This will soon change. The Flood of 2011 will be one that comes from a combination of Nature and of Man. Although the town experienced an extremely wet Spring (that caused regional flooding in some nearby communities), Parkville was spared the wrath of Nature. However, Man's altering Nature up river will now send new record flooding into town. Plus unlike with all previous floods that the town has experienced, these flood waters will stay for up to 12 weeks.
