Stromness Beach

The large Whaling Station stands in abandonment. Plus the few visitors (who are able to go ashore at Stromness) cannot go past the yellow & white warning signs.
Meanwhile, resident Fur Seals rule the beach; including the ruins. During breeding season, these fur seals can crowd the beach to the point of making a landing too dangerous for human visitors. However, on this day, the numbers of fur seals on this stretch of the beach were limited to just a few thousand. Because it was impossible to capture (in any single photo)the vastness of the scene as it was in real life, the majority of the seals are out of this frame.
