Banded Orange Heliconian Butterflies

Native to South and Central America, the Banded Orange Heliconian is the sole representative of its species. In summer, this butterfly can occasionally be found as far north as central Kansas. Males are bright orange with thick black stripes; while females are a duller orange with less distinct, lighter black stripes.
