After the Birth

Another gallery in honor of my mom who is a great Wildlife spotter.

*********************
One afternoon in a Nebraska field... This story starts where last year's story http://www.pbase.com/britestar/the_miracle_of_birth ended.

Alone in a corn field, this mother Angus was separated from the rest of the herd.

I first saw her soon after she had passed the placenta and was again back on her feet. Barely dry, her exhausted calf had been tagged. That meant the farmer had been there when the baby was born. Very thin and rather elderly, mama may have experienced a difficult delivery. With the farmer now gone, the mama was again on her own. She was trying to clean & get her newborn to follow her back to the others. Like last year's gallery, this story is the result of a "chance" encounter of a "City Girl" being at the right place at the right time. Lenses used were the Canon 600mm f/4 and the Canon 300mm f/4 and the Canon 24-105mm f/4L.

The quality of the images may not be perfect (due to having to deal with irratic and difficult lighting for many of the shots). But that's Nature... I have added this gallery because I feel it is the Story here that means the most. You can view each individual photograph and its description simply by scrolling down and then clicking on a thumbnail. Or you can click on "Slideshow" to view all without my comments.
