8:18 AM: Bones on the Buttes

Over the past two years I've been watching this dead cow literally disintegrate in the wash near the Wave - it is amazing to see how bleached and white the bones are now; they naturally make themselves the subject of some very, very interesting compositions. For this shot, I was within 7 inches of the bones, lying on my stomach, with my 12-24mm Tokina. I spent almost 20 minutes photographing this dead beast, only to realize on the hike up the last hill to the Wave that I hadn't stopped down far enough to keep the background in focus (I was reviewing shots during a short rest). I ran back down to the bones, re-shot at f/19, and proceeded back up the exhausting slope to the Wave...
