Snow Drift and Spire

Hiking the Queens Garden trail with all of the fresh snow was virtually a backcountry experience. Normally I would share the company of 20-40 people on this trail at any given time – this afternoon I was completely alone. A couple hundred yards down the trail follows closely to a sharp ridge near some pinnacles. As I stopped to tie my shoe, I looked up and saw how the foreground drift obscured all of the background spires except for this one. I was immediately struck by the abstract nature of this photograph – this could be a sand dune, white sand beach (OK, that’s a stretch), some otherworldly landscape. Hiking in Bryce that afternoon made me feel like I was in another world – and this image brings that feeling home.

The only way this photograph could be any better, is if it spit money into the viewer's pocket and made them financially rich as well ;-) It's a dichotomy, but even Paris Hilton would say this is HOT. g

As you say in your caption the snow is sand dune like here. I like the idea of a "snow dune" because it places winter atop the desert landscape which the pinnacle reminds us of.

Amazing work, your description takes you into the photo, i love it! Getting to hike in an environment that is otherworldly with no one around (maybe a companion) is one of my favourite activities!

Outstanding! Great composition! Great exposure. Other than that it's OK. Really OK. Ok better than OK. Good thing you didn't walk to the point first.
