I’m attracted to rather abstract images, especially when there are contrasting elements of pattern, texture, or color. With the cold snow on the warm red cliffs – the opportunity presented itself to create an image which brought these elements together in a complimentary manner. Parked on the sunny side of the road gathering my thoughts, I peered across the valley and saw this wonderful scene. The strong, bold, almost masculine architecture of the wall would be attractive enough to photograph, but the smattering of snow truly made this image, bringing in a strongly contrasting and complimenting element. This image was only possible because it was on the shadowed side of the canyon – if any sun was on this wall the contrast would have been too great to overcome.
