It's a special feeling to be immersed within an aspen grove at the peak of the autumn color. The light under the aspens is a wonderfully warm golden hue, and a special hush surrounds you as only the rustle of the crisp aspen leaves are to be heard above, and under foot. Some searching has brought me to some memorable aspen groves in Arizona and Utah - herein are images which reflect that warmth, that peaceful serenity, those feelings which accompany the entrance into these special places.

Four of the images are of a series of waterfalls near to, and within a grove of Aspens in Utah - while very different in hue and texture the falls complete the picture of the breadth of sights and sounds within the grove. Seven of the images (the "Aspen Study" series) were created to explore the relationship between the aspens and the 'quiet places' in the grove environment, while maintaining a measure of strong composition, balance, and perspective.

You'll notice strong, simple compositions in many of these images. As is common in much of my work, I frequently break down a landscape into it's essential elements, and look to derive the nature of the location from those simplified pieces...
