Loire Valley, October 2004

The Loire Valley is home to some of the most impressive French chāteaux of the Renaissance. We visited Chambord, Cheverny (glimpsed through the gate), Blois, Chenonceau, and the gardens of the chāteau de Villandry. A recurring image is the salamander, emblem of king Franēois Ier, who built Chambord and part of Blois and who owned Chenonceau.
