We were at the Tokio Store last night, it was our daughters birthday, she is good friends of the new owner and his wife, they had the Nascar race on the TV for all the folks to watch, we had a blast, some of the best old country songs on the juke box I have heard in a long time and definetly the coldest beer to be found!

I stumbled onto this site looking up Twin Sisters Dancehall for some information. We are just looking for somewhere new to go dance, especially since the weather is cooling down now in the evenings. We are getting married in April at Fischer Hall and I couldn't be more excited to celebrate the happiest day of my life in such a historic beautiful structure. I cannot wait to dance across that floor!
We have frequented many places throughout Texas visiting as many of these old historic dance halls in the last couple of years. When we vacation, it's in Texas for a weekend away to dance and experience a place that might not be there in years to come. It is so sad to see the tradition of Dance Halls being lost. One of our favorites in Anhalt, they still have dances twice a year open to the public. It broke my heart to see Saengerhalle close, it was one of my favorites. Although Gruene Hall is a "fun place" to visit, it's almost impossible to dance there. Between the tourists standing on the dance floor and the uneven boards on the floor, it takes the fun out of it. We love Club 21, but they always sprinkle that wax on the floor and it's like ice skating in your boots. So few places left, and nothing but time. Thanks for giving us a few more to add to our list.

Just stumbled onto this site. It is Great. Ex Texan here transplanted to play music in Nashville for cpl decades. This makes me homesick as I have played so many of these spots and hope to play all the rest. I was googling for the Sefcik hall as I am playing there this month with Eddy Raven and after seeing the pic here, can't wait to hit that dance floor and do alittle two-steppin. I am glad to see the Tokio Store on your site, it is definitely a Texas Honky Tonk!! One that I know Willie himself would praise, since he's played there (If you have to ask who Willie is, then don't bother). Plus my ranch is just north on the other end of Old Railroad Road, so I have a soft spot for Debra and Charley, the current oweners. If you ever get near there, just a few miles West off I-35 on FM1858, stop and have a cold Shiner or just for some good ole' Texas talk!

What about Cyclone Corral, Ratibor Store, Corn Hill, Maysfield Store, Pavelka's. Many, many more stores and dancehalls have closed in recent years due to the stricter drunk driving laws in Texas. It is both good and bad. A part of history is passing and one that I remember fondly. In 1994, my brother and I refurbished our Dad's country store in Ratibor. To this day it is still open and operating. If you get the chance stop by for a cold one. FM 2086, 9 miles east of Temple on State Hwy 53. Turn left in Seaton coming out of Temple. Sefcik Hall is just down the road from us. I know the Sefciks personnaly. Steven married my cousin.
