Looks Like Sunday Chicken Dinner_5161

Lake Martin, Louisiana

Gayle and I went back to Lake Martin yesterday to get more bird pictures. I watched this alligator stalk the purple gallinule, sometimes called prairie chicken, for 30 minutes. This was the closest the gallinule let it get. One thing about the alligator, he did have a lot of patience. When the gallinule flew off he just started stalking another bird.

Great capture. I'm glad the bird escaped. It's really pretty. And the alligator is very ugly. I know that's no way to judge the natural order of things but what can I say? I'm rooting for all the birds. At least they're not covered in green slime.

You guys sure weren't kidding when you told me not to worry about stepping on an alligator. My face is as green as the swamp. Ayeyiyi.

The alligators in this part of the United States are fairly peaceful creatures. The only time they are aggressive are when they're guarding their nests and that won't be for a couple of months.

Your Alligators musn't be as aggresive as our Crocs because it would be certain death to enter territory like this.
