After 20 years of busing children from Fishhawk Trails and Fishhawk Ranch Phase 1, the School Board voted to cut cost by cutting bus routes leaving children with unsafe walking conditions. The School Board advises parents to drive children or have them walk with traffic to their back on a narrow shoulder of Lithia Pinecrest Rd which has no sidewalks or streetlights. Without the buses we now have gridlock and can not get in or out of the neighborhoods. No way parents can allow children to walk on the shoulder of a two lane rural highway with heavy car and truck traffic. State law advises to always walk against traffic, but no way to cross over for about a half mile. All about saving money at the expense of safety and making quick decisions without using common sense or proper planning. The only crosswalk shown below crosses the road about .5 miles from the Community, but has no connecting sidewalks, just that small shoulder full of mud and water. The School Board advised that recent changes in the State law allows them to make these cuts.
