Test of 4 Mpixel JFet sensor. Nikon's only self developed sensor. The Jfet is similar to the MOSFet used in CMOS sensors but can be more sensitive. For whatever reason, perhaps economies of scale or limitations on achievable density, Nikon dropped this technology in favor of the ubiquitous CMOS, leaving this sensor an orphan. But I prefer the unique image "feel" it produces to any recent camera. Thanks to Sammy-X for tuning me into it... :-)
