Most of the Penangites speak their local dialect so called "Hokkien". However, they are also others dialect widely being spoken such as Cantonese, Teow Chew, Hakka, Hainanese. In order not being confused with all those dialect, Mandarin language is well understand in Penang and throughout the whole Malaysia. To call Nine Emperors in local dialect such as:- (In "Hokkien") - Kau Ong Yah (In "Teow Chew") - Kau Ong Yah (Diffenrent in term of tone) (In "Cantonese") - Kau Wong Yeh (In "Hainanese") - Kau Uang Yiah
