Jerejak Island also being called Pulau Jerejak in Bahasa Malaysia. This island is located 1.5 nautical miles from Penang Island off the west coast of Malaysia. Once a hospital for tuberculosis and leprosy patients and then a prison housing some of Malaysia's most wanted criminals. Jerejak Island has certainly seen it share of hardship and pain, but now the sounds of the past have died away and the island has taken on a fresh look, reverting back to its original splendour.

Jerejak Island offers endless opportunities to observe tropical flora and fauna and to study nature in its own backyard. The walking trail is a relaxing way to explore the surrounding areas and enjoy the sights in the jungle. The island homes some interesting wildlife and reptile species. With hills and relatively untouched jungle, completing a trail gives a sense of satisfaction.

As of now, the only operating resort on the island is Jerejak Resort & Spa. It offers quite a good package to those explorers and jungle endeavours. Myself and a few friends of mine were experienced staying in Executive Chalet. The rooms was great and the service from the front desk was polite and friendly except the food such as breakfast, lunch and dinner are tremendously below our expectation. Moreover, the service from Santapan Restaurant was poor. It would be great if the resort can improve their quality of food as well as the waiters and waitress need to have better training and communication skill.

Charges of MYR 20 for each person by exploring any jungle trails with a guide is way too expensive for a local as well as for whom staying in Penang Island. The price for Spa charges are also unreasonable although after 30% off the actual price for Spa Village inhouse guests. The resort need to take all these considerations in order to attract more tourists to our country.
