We did this walk on the New years weekend, 2005. The starting point is the campsite on the Gungarlin river, just off the Island Bend fire trail. We crossed Botherum Plain along an old trail to Kalkite gap; then went off track for the final climb to the summit of kalkite mountain (1546m). The view from the top, looking over lake Jindabyne and across to the Monaro Plains was spectacular. It was a 14km round trip and highly recommended!
