Overlooking the Yamuna river, this imposing red sandstone structure was built in 1565 by Emperor Akbar. Originally for military use, it was upgraded during Shah Jahan's reign to a palace before finally becoming a prison for Shah Jahan after he was deposed by Aurangzeb in 1658. Over half of the fort is still used by the Indian army today!
