Holiday Lights at The Mesa AZ Mormon Temple

The Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints puts on a spectacular light display (approximately 750,000 lights) for the Christmas holidays at their Visitor's Center on the north side of the Temple grounds. Located at 525 East Main in downtown Mesa, it is easily accessible off the Superstition Freeway, with ample free parking. From Main street, you first see light sculptures of the three Wisemen (with camels) walking toward a large shining star located south east where a beautiful nativity scene (which cannot be seen from Main Street) is located.

For people that live in the east valley, this is a great way to see a spectacular light display, and something that the younger kids will enjoy immensely (in a family friendly environment). Because of the cold snap here (hard freeze warning), the attendance was low Tuesday evening, which allowed me to shoot the images with few pedestrian obstructions. Even with my high country cold weather gear, after standing 90 minutes out in the cold, I was ready for the warmth of the truck's cab and the 30 min drive home back to the west valley :)

The lights are turned on from 5:30 PM - 10:00 PM.

Update: I arrived early 12/07/05 and captured some twighlight images taken from the northwest corner of the grounds, as well as images of the nativity and a view from the south of the Visitor's Center. (scroll down to see the 9 new images added)

Update: I went back on 12/19/2005 late in the evening to add a wide angle shot of the Temple in the reflecting pond.

Beautifully done photos of a spectacular light display. I always enjoy certain types of light deocrations - there is something in their presence quite sparkling and uplifting, reminiscent of stars. The thought that a goal, though possibly both distant and difficult to reach, is still there and attainable.
