Broadway by Night | Around Times Square

Broadway by Night

Along Broadway, between 42nd to 49th streets, the night is alive. Hordes come to witness a sea of seductive neon billboards that collectively showcase the cutting-edge of American outdoor advertising today. It’s like one huge outdoor party except that everyone's acting like they're in a museum: it’s surprisingly quiet because everyone’s busy looking up. You have to experience it to believe it.

FYI, you need a permit from the mayor of New York City to take street photography, I was told. And to use a tripod, you need another permit which they call a tripod license. So you better be acting like a tourist and don’t you be looking too suspicious!

I handheld all my shots, wrapping myself around lamp posts, street signs, telephone booths, and even a trash bin or two, anything to keep my camera steady at the slow shutter speeds needed to capture the night. I pray I didn’t do too badly! Enjoy.
