A visit to the Ayutthaya Historical Park near Bangkok is a chance to walk through Siam’s past, when kings and horses reigned, and where structures were built to last more than just a single lifetime. Once upon a time it was one of the largest cities in the world. Today this is about all that’s left of its greatness. Who lived here, what they’ve done, and where they’ve gone, few today know or care. But it does make one wonder if one day we share a similar fate.
