Swakopmund, on the coast of Namibia, enjoys a cool climate, in striking contrast to the hot inland deserts, brought about by the Benguela current flowing out of the Antarctic. An unpleasant effect is persistant periods of coastal fog. The city was founded by German colonists and retains a strong German flavor, which some say is more German than Germany.
