What the photos reveal is simply marvellous - Writing from Douala in Cameroon, I act in ocean transport, with many customers importing a wide range of products from Dubai; What I see goes way beyond trade, to announce the growth of a new era - The rulers spurring this deserve praise, and I will definitely be visiting sometime soon!

Great photos of a great place. Amazed that you could achieve such great results through commercial aircraft windows. We lived in Dubai 1975-79, my best place ever. Returned 2004 and 2007, its even better. Despite all the progress we love the atmosphere of the Creek. I think it gives Dubai its character. Look forward to updates of the Burg Dubai progress.

Dear Sir, I came to Sharjah on a visit with my wife during 2005. My son-in-law and daughter took pain to take us around and we have seen most of the important places at Dubai. It is a real nostalgic feeling to see those places from a very wide angle. Me and my wife came back from this magnific holiday destination just two weeks ago, so my memories are still fresh about Dubai.This was the second time we spent our holiday in Dubai(first time was two years ago, for 14 days)and we can say we are IN LOVE about the U.A.E. and especially of Dubai.I sugest everyone to spend some days in Dubai(min. 10 days not less)!

Hiya Julie... hhmm, you might want to try Dubai Automatic Resturant (in deira) or Al Halabi resturant (in garhoud) for one of the finest arabic food... plus you'll find the whole chain of known resturants on AlDiyafa street... on main shk zayed road you'll find the best of the hotels having finest cuisine from accross the world (chinese, thai, pakistanian, mexican, etc) .... for buying gold, you got two options.. either you can take the heat and go to gold souk, or you can do indoor shopping in any of the malls, such as, city center, burjuman, mall of the emirates... p.s. take your daughter to the ski in mall of the emirates... let me know if you need any more suggestions :) hav fun :)

I will be travelling to Dubai on the 29th of July and stopping over for three days on my way to Europe. Has any one got any tips of sights to see and good restaurants in Dubia to visit. I understand that the weather will be hot and since I am travelling with my teenage daughter any other tips of having a good time would be valued including good places to buy gold jewellery. Cheers

Having worked at dubal in 1999 for 6 months, a time of great joy for me,crossing the creek on an abra,having a drink in the Pancho villa on a thursday eve or a stroll around the souks truly amazing to think that this was dubai in its infancy.I lived just outside of the aluminium works in a village with a club attached to it called the Jebel ali recreation club and my question is does anyone remember the name of this village? Hi, I have been living in Dubai for just over a year now with my partner and my two sons age 15 and 18 years; we love it here. We are from the UK. Your pictures are fantastic! I am hoping to go up in a helipcopter myself to take my own pictures for our memories. Look forward to seeing your pictures of Dubailand once it is built. I personally took some great pictures at Christmas of the Dubai Balloon festival, I live on the Arabian Ranches Development off Emirates Road, so peaceful watching the balloons fly gracefully over the roof tops at 700am in the morning as the sun was just breaking through. FANTASTIC! I went to Dubai in Feb 2005 for a holiday and stayed at the Jebel Ali Hotel and it is a holiday I will treasure for the rest of my life. Dubai is an amazing place. great weather all year round and absolutely out of this world shopping malls. The Gold and Diamond Park is something else, the place to buy jewellery for sure. Your photos have certainly taken me back in time, they are superb. The longest straight road I have ever come across is Sheikh Zayed Road lined with all the beautiful buildings. I will return to Dubai for another holiday in the future. Thank you Brian for reminding me of my time spent in Dubai.

We (my wife and I) have just come back from Dubai. We stayed at the Bab Al Shams Desert Resort. Like every other place in Dubai we've visited, it was quite awesome to see what they've managed to realize in the middle of the desert... It was an absolutely fantastic experience. Although, I must admit that after one week of extraordinary service, luxury and the "we-want-to-be-the-most-exclusive-space-on-earth" kind of attitude, I was really happy to get back to Belgium... where the same bottle of champagne costs only a fraction of the ridiculous price you pay for alcohol in general in Dubai. I'd really like to visit Dubai again in, let's say 3 years from now or so, to take a look at the development of Dubailand, which aims to be the biggest theme park in the world, twice the size of Disney World they told us (???).

Seriously 'Kind Heart', please take a look at other countries of the world first [aka the USA] before criticizing Dubai and the UAE. I think you'll find that as the world's only superpower at this time, the US should be setting a better example in all aspects of everything and anything; One of these things should be to stop going on about how some small developing country in the Middle East could have spent the money more wisely on feeding the poor when the mighty US pours money into building cities such as Las Vegas and happily watches its citizens drive around in huge gas guzzling cars, live in [relatively] huge houses and feeds its overly greedy yet completely unaware of real-world antics population stupidly large meals in its diners. Jeez, the meals that you guys individually eat on a daily basis could feed a family of 10. Kind Heart: Wake up and smell the coffee. You are the big waste around here.

All the ppl who have problems with the developement in Dubai, should first critize their Brevelly Hills, Manhattan and Las Vegas. These ppl have absolutely no problems with the lavish life styles of their Hollywood and Pop Divas but care to preach us on modesty. Why dont they ask their Businesses, Engineering Companies, & Billionaries who are doing most of these activites and investment, to stop. The local population of this country is just 15% and most of the residents are Outsiders. Bulk of these real-estate is meant for use by Europeans, Americans and Indians. @ "Kind Heart" - UAE, like other Gulf countries, is supporting a huge population of displaced Palestinian refugees. And it is these Economic activites that is providing them employeement and a home away from home. @ All others - OIL is a product of this region and no one has to worry about it. We don't envy the vast agricultural output of western nations. And agricultural products are never given importance when large number of people in Africa are starving. But Oil is always made a global issue. USA which refuses to be bound by the terms of the 1992 world treaty on climate change, is the most resource hungry and polluting country on the planet and a large percentage of its inhabitants insist on driving around in gas-guzzling 4 wheel drive vehicles or SUV's Oil is not a Global issue, it is your issue.

At a time when global issues are in turm-OIL such a development can only be described as irresponsible, inappropriate and illegitimate. With all the money, talent and resources at thier disposal they could have done something truly astounding like irrigating the desert or placating hunger, disease and poverty throughout the region. I say build communities not golf clubs. In my experience the types who frequent golf and country clubs in the UK regard you and your people with contempt! I'm American, are there any flight schools for Private Pilot's License? Also, is the PPL in UAE equivalent to that in America or FAA? Any special fying regulations in UAE that might affect an American, or would I just be free to fly? Thanks.

I cannot believe the changes in Dubai since my childhood!! My memories of Dubai are date palms and bhustaans of date palms for harvest. At the time there were no 'American' style houses - I am going back 50 years! So I can see how quickly change and progress can happen! What terrific photographs you have taken. Shabaash!

Brain these photo's are sensational, you have helped so many understand what Dubai is like. All the places/buildings etc I have heard of I have now seen without going to Dubai. We are looking at a Dubai work contract for three years. I too got even more excited when viewing your photo's looks fabulous. Do you have any of the Arabian Ranches, Equestrian Centres and Farms? Stunning is insufficient ! Would be useful to add the Madinat Jumeirah. We come to Dubai as often as we can, and last time used Al Qasr at Madinat....this beats anywhere else for us, so aerial views would be wonderful.

I took most of these photos on various commercial flights in and out of Dubai. Another option is to rent a Cessna from Umm Al-Quwain or Fujairah for a scenic flight which runs around 500 AED/hr.

You used to be able to buy vouchers for 200 AED redeemable in the shops, bars and restaurants in the Burj al Arab. They suspended that program about a year ago and now, as far as I know, the only way to visit without being a guest is to make reservations at one of the restaurants.
