The Greek and Roman ruins at Butrint, 20 km south of Saranada, Albania, were visited by everyone from Byron to Kruschev. Ksamili was a model communist commune just north of there. Easy to be a communist when you're surrounded by white sand beaches and idyllic green isles set amodst crystal blue waters.
