M 59 and M 60 are both members of the Virgo Cluster of
galaxies, both about 60 million light years from earth.
M 59 is the bright galaxy in the right center of this image.
It is an unusually elongated elliptical galaxy. In the left
center is M 60, a giant elliptical galaxy, and its apparent
neighbor NGC 4647, a spiral galaxy which probably lies behind
M 60. There are at least 20 galaxies visible in this image.
