Fire on Cove Mountain

A small fire at a building site Monday got out of control and started a forest fire on Cove Mountain. Sixty firefighters have been working around the clock on putting it out. It has already burned several hundred acres. Late yesterday, after an overnight heavy rain, they thought the fire was contained. We received a phone call this morning that the fire had broken control. This photo was taken near 5:00 AM this morning. We ran into one of the volunteer fire chiefs who I know at about 7:00 this morning and he said that most of it was contained. "I know it looks bad but it's a lot better than it was."
Sure didn't look that way to me but what do I know? No rain in forecast and the smoke, which has been blowing away from us all week, is nevertheless taking it's toll. The lower lights are from rental cabins in harm's way. Six cabins as of yesterday have burned completely.

You were on it Buz, I hope no threat to your home. Be safe.

Dramatic photo, Buz - I was hoping you'd get one. Rain in the valley last week but only spotty showers up there - friends stayed home from work to protect their houses. It's been so windy lately I'm amazed anyone would attempt a burn. :( v

Very impressive image. Technically perfect. Having forest fire in March is worrying: it is not supposed to be dry at this period of the year!

Outstanding image of the fire, Buz! It wasn't blazing that high when I passed by today but that was before the winds got so strong again. Hope we get some more rain soon.
