Richard Hollingshead II is one of THE most exciting marble artists to come around in the modern era of art glass marbles. Richard's attention to detail and perfection in his work is at a level that very few artists attain, and this almost manic drive to create flawless beauty is what we collectors LOOOOOOVE to see! He is one of my absolute favorite artists, creating stunningly beautiful works of art that are completely devoid of imperfections. Every marble that comes out of his shop is at this caliber, amazingly enough.

Richard creates both hollow and solid marble designs. His hollow marbles are particularly fascinating, and you'll find nobody else in the world creating them quite like Richard does. The technique used is called 'inside-out', allowing Richard to achieve a 3-dimensional depth to the design on the surface before the marble is completely sealed hot, leaving absolutely no traces of the seal point behind. They are a true wonder. The walls of the marbles are thicker than other hollow marbles you might have seen or have in your collection, allowing this depth of pattern on the surface. So, SOOOOOO cool in hand, trust me on this one. You're going to want to experience it for yourself. To top it all off, each of the hollow marbles is fumed on the inside, so this fuming shows through the pattern where any clear exists, allowing for awesome colors to pop through, sometimes having a super mirror-like surface. They are some of my absolute favorite marbles.

If that isn't enough, Richard is incredibly proficient in his solid designs as well, creating super fun designs on tubing (thunderbolts and wigwags, etc.) and also some REALLY awesome imploded designs that look like alien flowers. His pinwheeling is smart and clean, and Rich uses really great colors of glass, with some great sparkly rods thrown in. So, so clean and tight, every one of them.

Richard was featured in 2009 at a very exclusive marble exhibition in Japan, along with 11 other American artists and 6 Japanese artists. Quite an honor to be invited to this show, being held at the You-yuusya Gallery.
