A rather dank morning at this extraordinary piece of canal engineering, which links Central Scotland's two main canals (the Union Canal and the Forth & Clyde Canal) via a rotating boat lift. It is truly a wonderful sight to see, and while it is a functioning piece of civil engineering which provides an important connection within the waterway network, it has fast become a celebrated tourist destination.
