The Getty Villa

The Getty Villa is located in Malibu, CA (although technically it is located in the city of Pacific Palisades but the museum literature states Malibu) and features Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities. The Getty Villa is modeled after the Villa dei Papiri, a Roman country house in Herculaneum buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79.

Oil magnate J. Paul Getty used some of his vast wealth to amass an incredible art and antiquities collection, first displayed in his ranch house on a bluff overlooking the Pacific which is now the Getty Villa Museum. Entrance to The Getty Villa is free but you must obtained timed tickets in advance due to the restriction on the amount of visitors the museum allows on a daily basis.

Great pictures especially capturing the late afternoon golden sun. However the last picture, Late Afternoon at the Getty Villa, is NOT the Getty Villa nor associated with it. This is a common misperception of many people including the NY Times. It is the property next door and privately owned.
