The small synagogue is nestled directly alongside the tall stone defence walls surrounding two town churches, a medieval architectural construction – Kirchenburg, fortified church - typical for the region, settled by German immigrants - “Saxons” - 800 years ago. Renovations undertaken by the mayor’s office were completed in summer 2008. All traces of former religious use have been scrupulously removed, the exterior of the building is painted a rather garish orange and the interior stripped of any original elements. Presumed future usage is for cultural events.
